Kavo wins NSW title

Papua New Guinean Boxer Camillus Kavo, from Aipeana village in Mekeo LLG, Kairuku District won the New South Wales title after defeating his opponent Lindsey Frizell who fights in the 67kg division at the fight in Dubbo town, Australia on Saturday night.

His opponent Lindsay Frizell is the champion for Boss Battle Gym in Armidale, New South Wales.

The 22-year-old who fights in the 67kg division said he knew the fight would be tough as his opponent is a title holder.

I was careful at all times in both my attack and defense. I always moved away when my opponent was charging towards me and wasted no time to attack when I saw an opportunity.

Kavo maintained his counter punches to keep his opponent off at all times.

Another boxer Tony Oaike also won his fight and was put in the semi boxing tournament to fight for the NSW title however his opponent Richard Williams 75kg division did not turn up so his match was canceled.

President for Kairuku Amateur Boxing Association Andrew Magaiva said he is proud of Kavo and Oaike who are products of KABA.

Kavo and Oaike will be champions from their respective weight classes in Amateurs and of course in professional boxing in the near future as they are now well equipped in Australia with proper facilities in place for training.

Magaiva also thanked the government of Australia and PNG for the Labour Mobility Programs which is helpful to young people from our country.

One of Kairuku Amateur Boxing Association’s strategic plan for its boxers has been successful and we are looking forward to seeing more of those as we journey forward.
