PNG Kyokushin Karate hosted its first provincial tournament at the PNG Institute of Public Administration (PNGIPA) Hall on Saturday and Sunday (02 – 03, May), marking a new leaf for the organization which has been asleep for almost a decade.

The tournament also marked the reconciliation between Sensei Walter Schnaubelt and his first uchi-deshi Sempai Bernard Soari after the pair parted ways more than 9 years ago. Also present and a judge at the event was Sensei Chad Boga from Brisbane.

The even started on Saturday with the kata, kid’s kumité and the men’s heavy weight and middle weight division kumité eliminations. The finals and light weight division; which had the bulk of competitors, was held on Sunday, and followed by a Sayonara barbeque.

The provincial tournament attracted participation from more than 30 fighters from Erima Dojo /MOKKA, Lafi Dojo, TKU Bereina, TKU Port Moresby and Space Shotokan Karate.

PNG Warrior will publish the results of the tournament once it has been confirmed by the host.
