PNG Karate takes part in Melbourne International

The PNG Karate-do Federation (PNGKF) will be sending eleven (11) members of its 62 member Train-on Squad to participate at the Melbourne International Karate Championships during the weekend.

The squad members are; Female – Sarah Ande who will take part in Senior Kumite 61kg and Kata; Violet Wangihau in Senior Kumite 61kg, Joancherry Revui in Junior division Kumite -54Kg and Kata; Gantianna Joseph in Junior division Kumite -54kg and Crystal Mari in Cadet division -54kg and Kata.  Male athletes are; Junior Billy Senior division Kumite 60kg; Cosmas Saliawali Senior division Kumite 60kg and Kata; Nigel Bana in Senior division Kumite 61kg and Kata, Atomu Amani Jnr in Senior division Kumite 75kg; Sailas Piskaut in Senior Kumite 67kg and Leonard Geriadi in Senior division Kumite 75kg and Kata.

The selected athletes participated in the weekend training camp ran by Mentor coach Sensei Trevor Roberts on 14th – 16 /02/2014 in Port Moresby training.  Sensei Trevor will be joining the team in Melbourne.

The accompanying management team comprise of Willie Leslie as coach, Bernard Soari as trainer and Pastor Joseph Baeau as manager.  The team leaves on Friday 21/02/2014 at 8.00am and returns on Tuesday 25/02/2014.

Carl Mari is President of Papua New Guinea Karate-Do Federation (PNGKF) and a Sandan in Shotokan Karate. He runs the Rock Shotokan Karate Club in Port Moresby.
