The Papua New Guinea Karate-Do Federation (PNGKF) has confirmed that they will be hosting a Karate Technical Training Seminar at the Shady Rest hotel in Port Moresby from the June 25 to July 6.
According to a press release by the PNGKF, the seminar will be conducted by Sensei Trevor Roberts from the Shotokan Budokai Karate Honbu (headquarters).
Sensei Trevor is the President of the Queenland Karate Federation (QKF) and an internationally recognized referee. He is also a former coach.
The two week event is sponsored by the Australian Sport Outreach Program (ASOP) through the Australian High Commission, the Papua New Guinea Sports Federation and Olympic Committee and PNG Power Limited. Trukai Industries, Ox & Palm and Digicel PNG have also committed to support the event.
The first week will cover kumite, shodan kata and shitei and pressure points. The later week will cover performance planning, coaching and refereeing. The participants will then practice during the 23rd National Karat Championships on the 7 – 8 July. Sensei Trevor will assess the participants and respective certificates and accreditation will be awarded.
PNGKF is also encouraging non- affiliated clubs and karate styles to send officials, athletes and instructors to the event. They are also extending a special invitation to females to participate. The event is an initiative of PNGF to develop Karate in the country and is timed to prepare athletes and officials for the PNG Grassroots Games in November in Kokopo and the 2015 Pacific Games.
