Lone Judoka comes out of the shadows

Papua New Guinea (PNG) will be represented in the London Olympics by lone Judoka, Raymond Ovinou. The little known fighter qualified in April at the Oceania Judo Championships in Cairns, Australia.

Ovinou, 27, a Gulf resident of Gereka village won three bouts in his 66kg division before losing to South Australian Steven Brown. His performance earned him third place placing and a ticket to London. He relocated to Manchester, England, where he has been strenuously preparing for the Olympics.

Ovinou’s manager, John Jambert is currently in Melbourne, Australia and will meet him before the start of competitions on July 29.
