Open karate titles held in Lae

The 5th Papua New Guinea (PNG) Open Karate Titles was held in Lae over the Easter weekend which saw a good number of participants.

According to President of the PNG Karate Federation (PNGKF), Carl Mari, the event was a success and saw the participation of a lot of juniors and children.

He said the top three provinces in the medal tally were Central, followed by Morobe then Goroka.

Mari also said the 23rd National Karate Championships will be held in Port Moresby for the first time. He said the Titles and the Championships were two distinct events and the first was open to other styles of martial arts as well as non-affiliated clubs. The later is limited to karate and members of the federation.

Mari said the federation initially had only one main championship but decided to separate the two events some years ago.

Announcements for the championships will be made known at a later date
