Taekwondo PNG will host its first national championships in May which will feature female international rep. Teresa Tona facing off against a yet to be named Australian opponent.
Tona, who is currently ranked 12th in the world under the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) 49kg division, is currently living and training in Adelaide, Australia under recently appointed Papua New Guinea Olympic coach Andy Rutten. She will fly into the country for this event.
The fight will take place on the 27 of May. It will be part of a two day event that will see taekwondo schools from all over the country compete.
According to reports in The National, President of the Taekwondo PNG, Ila Ower has said that the championship will feature electronic scoring systems will be used as well as international officials from the WFT.
