Boxing Makes a Comeback in Bulolo

Boxing is set to make a comeback to the district of Bulolo in Morobe with a selection trial set for this weekend at the Mumeng Government Station.

The event is made possible with the support of the Bulolo Open MP, National Planning Minister former Taekwondo international rep, Sam Basil, Mumeng LLG and Plumtrade Limited which made a K2500 sponsorship and t-shirts.

Bulolo has produced ace boxers including the late John Sam who ignited the flames of boxing when he won a gold medal in the 1991 South Pacific Games in Lae, causing frenzy among the locals.

Seven clubs will converge at the station to contest for places in the Bulolo Boxing Team for the National Boxing Championships. According to President of the Bulolo Boxing Association, Kevin John, the clubs have fielded pugilists starting at 49kg, fly weight up to the 81kg division.
