Plans for a Hollywood movie to be filmed in Papua New Guinea (PNG) face an uphill battle with a lack of support from the government and potential sponsors.
Former kickboxing world champion Stanley Nandex, who has a part in the movie The B Team, said yesterday that as the person instrumental in getting fellow martial artist and main actor Don “The Dragon” Wilson to consider PNG as an exotic location for filming he was concerned that the level of interest from the government and sponsors was not picking up as he had hoped.
The filming which is penciled in for May will see Hollywood action stars Wilson, Cynthia Rothrock and Michael Jai White spend more than a month in three different locations including East New Britain, New Ireland and Southern Highlands.
Nandex said he had also invited the three actors to attend next month’s Kickboxing national titles in Port Moresby to boost the promotion of the movie and also motivate fighters in the national titles.
The B Team launching night will be on March 7 in Port Moresby and will see the three stars and the movie’s director and producer attend.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has also been invited.
“The B Team launching is scheduled for March 7 and the movie’s director and main actors will be here to meet with sponsors and the government.
“While they are here they will also attend the national kickboxing titles and as fellow martial artists it would be an opportunity for them to offer some words of advice to our fighters,” Nandex said.
He said a national team would be selected from the kickboxing titles to attend the Kickboxing World Championships in Croatia later this year.
