Fighting within PNGABU

The Papua New Guinea Amateur Boxing Union (PNGABU) President-elect John Avira is denying claims that K30, 000 donations for the national championships in Vanimo, West Sepik, was misused. According to reports in The National, he has refuted the allegations and will prove it with acquittals.

It is alleged, by National Capital District (NCD) boxing official Honk Kiap, that monies given to stage the championships were not used. He also alleged the election of the new PNGABU on December 2 as illegal and unfair. However, Avira has stated that there were 14 associations present which gave a quorum and qualified the elections.

Kiap will be sending a letter to the Amateur International Boxing Association (AIBA) declaring the election null and void, and will seek a sports tribunal to look into the matter.
