The students who graded on Saturday

The Erima Kyokushin Karate Dojo conducted their junior grading last Saturday which saw nine (9) students – including three (3) girls – graduate to the next level.

The grading which was held at Bavaroko Primary School saw the students go through almost five (5) hours of examination by their instructor, Sempai Bernard Soari, who tested their knowledge in the basics (kihon), flexibility, stamina, kata (forms) and jyu kumite (free fighting).

All the students passed and were awarded their certificates and belts after the grading, much to the delight of the parents who came to support their children.

Sempai Bernard, a Kyokushin Sho-Dan (first degree Black Belt) thanked the parents for their support and said witnessing the event would give them a better understanding of the philosophies and training of Kyokushin.

The students who graded were:

  • Johnson Wako;
  • Frank Boga;
  • Nathalie Soari;
  • Kollin Benny;
  • Griffith Mea;
  • Smith Taupa;
  • Alfie Colman Jnr;
  • Samantha Taupa, and;
  • Michaela Mesa.

Sempai also said the club would also be two (2) more gradings for the year. However, the next event on their calendar would be the Independence Weekend Training Camp which will be held from September 16 – 18 at Kankas village along the Gaire Highway.

Erima Kyokushin Dojo currently trains at Bavaroko on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for adults (12 years and above) from 5pm – 6:30pm and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4pm – 5pm for children.
