PORT MORESBY: Five Judo masters from Japan traveled to Papua New Guinea last week and participated in the Japan Day Festival held at the University of PNG on Saturday 19th September.
Together with Judokas from PNG, they put up a wonderful show for invited guests and the public who turned out to witness the celebrations.
There were also other performances which included song and dance, games, traditional Japanese rice cake making and musical performance with the traditional Japanese harp.
The Festival was to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and PNG.
Judo is one of Japan’s martial art systems that is also practiced in PNG. Other popular styles are Karate and Aikido.
