Pennie eyes gold in Taekwondo

22 year old Taekwondo athlete Rainner Pennie has set his eyes on gold at the coming Pacific Games to be held in Port Moresby next month, The National (June 3, 2015) reports.

Pennie, who was formally named in the squad last week, fights in the 63kg division and has an impressive résumé including winning two silver medals at the Gold Coast Open last month, gold in the 2014 New Zealand Nationals, South Australia Championships and the 2014 PNG Games in Lae.

He also won a silver medal in the Pacific Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna in 2013.

The potential gold medalist, together with female Taekwondo champion Teresa Tona, is currently in training in Adelaide, Australia in preparations for the Pacific Games.

Pennie and Tona will also be competing next weekend against fighters from North Queensland in the Caboolture Open in Brisbane.
