Kairuku Amateur Boxing Association (KABA) has thanked Minister for Sports and 2015 Pacific Games Justin Tkatchenko for buying a new boxing ring for their association.

KABA Charity Boxing coordinator Joe Aufa, who is also the PNG boxing national coach, said the purchase of the new boxing ring was timely as it will be used for the charity boxing challenge to raise money for their run down Catholic Church in Veifa’a in the Mekeo area of the Kairuku-Hiri electorate.

Aufa extended his sincere thanks to the PNG Sports Foundation acting executive director Peter Tsiamalili Jnr and the National Sports Institute director Edris Kumbruwah and the PNG Sports Federation secretary general Auvita Rapilla for all their support in acquiring the new boxing ring.

He also thanked PNG Boxing Union chief John Avira for having trust in him to take the lead in organising the boxing competition in Kairuku and Mekeo-Kuni LLG in Central province.  Aufa said the boxing ring will be used in the rural areas of Kairuku and Mekeo-Kuni LLG to scout for hidden talents.

The ring can be also used for other ring sports such as judo, karate, kickboxing and taekwando.
The official launching for the new boxing ring is set for January 16-19 which will coincide with the fundraising boxing challenge for Veifa’a Catholic Church in Veifa’a village.

Veifa’a village paramount chiefs Lui Akaina, Henry Aiso and Ben Ae plus church spokesman Mathew Efi, Mekeo-Kuni LLG Ward Two Councillor Ben Afaisa have confirmed that their village, Veifa, will host the charity boxing challenge.

The charity boxing challenge will be used to raise funds to renovate the Veifa’a Catholic Church which was built in 1940. The money will be raised through gate takings, boxers’ registration, medical card fees and stall fees.

Aufa appealed to the Mekeo public and private business houses and individuals to support the charity boxing to raise funds for the church. Any donation for the church can be handed over to Charity Boxing Coordinator Joe Aufa who can be contacted on 71441798 or Lui Akaina on 73093858.
