Morobe to Welcome June with Blood, Sweat and Tears

Morobe is set to welcome the month of June with an explosion of fists, blood, sweat and tears in their first provincial Boxing Club Championships.

The event, set for June 1 – 2, will be held at Wagau Primary School in the Buang LLG, Bulolo district and has already attracted a number of clubs.

Boxers from Unitech, Malabu, Kamkumung, Eriku, Wau, Bululo, Baiyune, Mumeng, Jamo and Wagau have confirmed to participate in the two day tournament.

President of the Bululo Amateur Boxing Association (BABA) and chairman of the organising committee, Kevin Sam, said clubs were preparing well for the event.

He said the fighters will contest the 49kg – 91kg divisions and selections will be made for a provincial team to represent Morobe in the National Boxing Championships in Kokopo.

Sam also thanked local MP and deputy opposition leader, Sam Basil, for buying a boxing ring and is calling on business houses to contact him on (+675) 7203 0388 if they wish to assist with sponsors for the tournament.
