Kickboxers gear for island challenge

IMG_0337_webPapua New Guinean (PNG) kickboxers are preparing for the heat two of the Ox & Palm Kickboxing Cup which kicked off last month in Port Moresby. This time the fight is to be staged in volcanic East New Britain (ENB).

The challenge, set to stir the town of Kokopo, will be held at the Vunapope Catholic Diocese Hall on May 11 with more than 50 fighters in different weight categories.

PNG Kickboxing Association (PNGKA) Chief Executive Officer and former World Champion Stanley Nandex said all the regions have strong teams and winners will qualify for the next heat in Lae, Morobe Province.

He said, “The host province will have great fighters as well as Bougainville region, which is expected to dominate the fights.”

Nandex also thanked the Sports and Community Development Office and governor for their support and initiative.

The next heat has been scheduled for June 22 in Lae, followed by heat four on July 13 in Goroka.
