Karate in the National Capital District has a new association. The NCD Karate Association (NCDKA) was set up to cater for NCD clubs activities and tournaments as well as preparations for the PNG Grassroots Games. The association is fully registered under the Papua New Guinea Karate Federation (PNGKF).

According to an email from the Port Moresby Shotokan Karate Association (POMSKA), the executives for the association are:

  • President, Joe Kubugl;
  • Vice-President /Secretary, John Ali, and;
  • Treasurer, Sempai Julius Piku.

The executives are all young, experienced martial artists with good positions in their respective careers with Piku, although maintaining a low profile, being one of our most experienced athletes having represented the country in a few international events.

NCD has over the years produced classic fighter from Kyokushin like Sensei Walter Schnaubelt (IKO 1), Sempai Bernard Soari, the Late Paul Pautani, Sempai Sailas Piskaut, Carl Guria, and from Shotokan (SKIF, JKA) like Sempai Fred Tony, Sempai Willie Leslie, Sempai John Ali and Sempai Julius Piku, to name a few.

Squad selection trials for the 4th PNG Open Karate Championships in April and the upcoming PNG Grassroots Games in Kokopo will be announced soon.
