Erima Kyokushin Holds Grading

Erima Kyokushin Karate dojo run by former PNG and Australian champion Sempai Bernard Soari, Shodan, held its second grading last Saturday since opening in 2010. The event was held at the Gordon International Primary School Hall which saw up to ten students from both the children and adult classes go through their exams.

Among those who went through the rigorous exam regime of Kyokushin were six year olds Fiona Vinau and Adriella Soari, recent Pacific Games gold medallist Melisa Turia, uchi-deshis David Tipar, Eugene Sipian, Visilline Saron, Steven Lugu, Peter Awa, Darius Soari and a few others. The grading was conducted by Sempai Soari.

The students went through almost four hours of grading and were tested on their knowledge and skills of the basic techniques (kihon), moving basics (ido-gekho), forms (kata) and sparring (kumité).

Meanhwile, Sensei Wally’s dojo at 6-Mile is set to hold their grading in December.
